Book Donations from Community

The Friends of Morley Library requests your support by donating books (adult and/or children’s hardcover, paperback, and audio), current magazines, CDs, DVDs, and jigsaw puzzles. We are especially in need of kids’ books. Please note that all items should be in good condition. See our book donations guidelines below. 

 

  • Large donations (> 3 boxes) are accepted at our Bookshop on:

    • Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

    • Thursday, 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

       

  • Small donations (< 3 boxes) can be dropped off at the Morley Library Circulation Desk located on the library's 1st floor or delivered to the BookShop on Tuesday (10:30 - 2:30) or Thursday (3:00 - 6:00).

Book Donation Guidelines

The Friends are accepting the following items that are in good condition:

  • Books: hardcovers, paperbacks, adult/children’s, audiobooks
  • DVDs and CDs
  • Jigsaw puzzles
  • Current magazines without torn covers. (Please remove your name and address from the magazine cover.)

We are unable to accept:

  • Magazines too old to be of interest
  • Encyclopedias
  • Textbooks
  • Computer software
  • Records (vinyl)
  • VHS tapes
  • Cassette tapes
  • Items must not be damaged by water or mildew (musty or otherwise damaged).

Please bring your donation to the library’s circulation desk.

Book Donations to Community Organizations

To promote literacy and foster the joy of reading, the Friends donate used books for all ages to groups in the library service area. More than 1,500 books have been donated since May 2017 to the organizations below.

  • WIC (Women Infants & Children) Christ Child Society
  • Lake County Jail
  • Altercare
  • Our Shepherd Lutheran School Books for Fundraiser
  • Harvey High School Young Children & Emergent Readers
  • Laundromat Library League Young Children & Spanish
  • Painesville Recreation Dept. Pre-K through Second Grade
  • Salvation Army Back to School Bash - Young Children through Teen
  • Lake Erie College - Bridge the Gap - Pre-K, Teen, Spanish
  • Painesville City Schools Chestnut Elementary Library State & Country Series
  • Painesville Community Theater Summer Camp - Elementary through Middle School
  • Painesville Summer Lunch Program - Early Childhood, Teen, Adult & Bi-lingual
  • Robin Reeder, Private Little Free Library on Hale Rd.

The number of requests honored is based on the current inventory.  Select this link to find a short request form to use this community resource.  After printing and completing the form, mail it to Friends of Morley Library, 184 Phelps St., Painesville, OH 44077, or drop it at the Morley circulation desk. (No requests from dealers, please.)

Please allow 10-14 days for your request to be processed.

You will be notified of the status of your request and, if approved, given the date you may pick up the books at the Morley circulation desk.
