Volunteer Release Form Morley Library


Morley Library Volunteer Policy 

Volunteers work cooperatively with Morley Library staff to help connect the community and library, to create positive experiences for our patrons, and to enhance the Library’s services. 

Eligibility  

  1. Volunteers must be at least 13 years old.
  2. Minor children may only work as volunteers with signed consent of parent/legal guardian.
  3. Morley Library does not accept court-ordered volunteers.
  4. Volunteers provide their services at-will. The Library may terminate their services at any time.
  5. Volunteers must be approved by a department manager or the Library director. 

Opportunities 

The Library periodically has a limited number of volunteer opportunities available. If no opportunities are open, the Library cannot guarantee accommodation of volunteering requests. 

Compensation 

  1. Volunteers do not have employee status.
  2. Volunteers serve without remuneration in wages, benefits, or any other compensation, including travel expenses.
  3. Volunteers are not covered by the Library’s workers’ compensation coverage.

Reference & Background Check

All volunteers may be asked to submit names of individuals to serve as references. Volunteer candidates aged 18 and over may be required to complete a background check (at their expense) prior to providing any volunteer services. 

Consent & Waiver Forms 

Before any volunteer services can be provided, every volunteer (or parent/legal guardian of minor children) must sign a Release, Indemnification, and Waiver of Liability Form for Volunteers which will be kept on file with Morley Library. This form includes a photo/video release waiver. 

Transportation 

All volunteers will be responsible for providing their own transportation to and from the library. 

Orientation & Training 

Volunteers will be given training and directions by designated Library staff. Failure to follow directions may result in dismissal from volunteer tasks.

Duties & Responsibilities 

  1. Volunteer activities include, but are not limited to, assisting with youth & adult programs, decorating, clerical tasks, and providing homework help or literacy tutoring.
  2. Volunteers will not perform tasks or duties assigned to paid staff.
  3. The volunteer’s supervisor reserves the right to reassign duties based on the needs of the Library. 

Dress Code 

Volunteers are expected to dress in a manner that is neat, clean, and conducive to the safe and effective performance of assigned duties.

Attendance 

Once accepted and placed in a volunteer assignment, volunteers are expected to be punctual and to inform the Library as soon as possible of any needs for schedule changes, time off, or emergency absence. 

Behavior & Conduct 

Volunteers are expected to adhere to the Library’s Behavior & Conduct Policy and all other Library policies and procedures. If a volunteer’s duties include access to privileged and confidential information, such as patron data, volunteers will not disclose this information to anyone not employed by the Library.
